The Seta Oil Test Centrifuge is a heating centrifuge fitted with a rotor head with four universal pivoting buckets. The centrifuge is used to determine water and sediment in oils.

The rotation speed, temperature, acceleration rate and time are set using the control panel. Test parameters can be saved as a program and recalled quickly.

The maximum limits of acceleration, braking and rpm/rcf are dependent on the type of rotor head installed. The identity of the rotor head is automatically detected by the 90000-3. The specifications shown in this manual are for the 221.40 rotor head, which is specifically designed for this application.

The chamber is heated by an external helical element. The chamber can be pre-heated before the test run. The instrument compensates for the temperature differential between the chamber and the rotating sample, during the run the corrected temperature displays.

The lid is operated using the control panel and the centrifuge is fitted with a safety interlock to prevent the rotor running when the lid is unlocked. Samples are added to the centrifuge in test method specific centrifuge tubes along with tube adapters. The instrument is sensitive to the weight of the samples and an imbalance detector stops the centrifuge if the rotor head has an imbalance of over 8 grams.

Results are viewed with reference to a test method.

The optional Setafuge Hazard Reduction System (90010-0) prevents the uncontrolled release of hazardous vapours from the centrifuge. The system extracts vapour from near the top rim of the chamber, maintaining the pressure in the chamber at slightly below atmospheric. Vapour extracted is diluted with air, and is safely discharged into a non-hazardous area. The vacuum inside the chamber is monitored by a vacuum switch, and the system is interlocked to ensure safe operation of the centrifuge. The Hazard Reduction System only requires connection to a compressed air supply and the centrifuge.

Two different height trolleys with locking castors are available as accessories. The trolley provides a safe platform for operating the centrifuge and also permits the centrifuge to be moved to different locations within the laboratory.

SAFETY FEATURES include a motor driven lid latch with a safety interlock to prevent centrifuge operation while the lid is unlocked, imbalance detection, and over-temperature protection for both the motor and the chamber. The centrifuge is almost silent in operation with measured noise levels below 55 dB (A). Two types of trolleys are available as optional accessories to allow easy movement of the instrument. The centrifuge meets the safety requirements of BS 4402; DIN 58970; IEC 1010-1; IEC 1010-2-D; pr EN 61 010-1 & 61 010-1; BGR 500; Chapter 2.11; Part 3; UVV VBG4; and VDE 0871.
